PFAS in firefighting foam restriction proposal - Fidra response 2026

Fidra's response to the public consultation on a restriction on PFAS use in firefighting foams in the UK.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), as the Agency for UK REACH, has assessed the risks linked with using PFAS in firefighting foams and has proposed a restriction on the placing on the market and use of PFAS in firefighting foams.

Fidra strongly supports a restriction on PFAS use in firefighting foams. This response outlines Fidra’s support for the restriction, recommends improvements to the proposed timelines and derogations, and advocates for the extension of this approach to a universal restriction on all non essential uses of PFAS in the UK.
